Omar Ali, the son of a Pakistani American dad and a Floridian mom, was raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia and attended the University of Memphis in Tennessee. With a degree in Journalism, he’s reported for, contributed to, and edited articles for The Shelby Sun Times, The Memphis Downtowner Magazine, South County Newspapers, 65° Magazine, and the Concord Transcript. He received his MFA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University under the tutelage of such writers as Peter Orner and ZZ Packer.

Ali has recently completed THE FINISHING OF THE MOSQUE OF BLUE LIGHT, a novel about a freshly divorced Muslim man grappling with his Catholic ex-father-in-law for religious custody of his sons and with unknown antagonists threatening the construction and existence of what will be the biggest mosque in America, a project that is both his life's work and tribute to his dead father.

Ali resides in San Francisco with his girlfriend and lectures in the English department of San Francisco State University.
