JAMES GALVIN

Born in Chicago and raised in northern Colorado, James Galvin has published eight books of poems, most recently EVERYTHING WE ALWAYS KNEW WAS TRUE. His new and collected poetry volume, RESURRECTION UPDATE, was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Award, the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize, and the Poet's Prize. His poetry collection, GOD’S MISTRESS, was a National Poetry Series winner.
Galvin is also the author of a novel, FENCING THE SKY, and a celebrated book of prose, THE MEADOW, about the land and landscape that is the border between Wyoming and Colorado. His honors include a Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Foundation Award, a Lannan Literary Award, and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Ingram Merrill Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Galvin teaches at the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, where he earned his MFA in 1977. He divides his time between Iowa City and Wyoming.
