BETHANY MCLEAN
"Bethany McLean has written an insightful guide to one of the fascinating true-financial-crime cases of our time."
— The Washington Post
Bethany McLean is a journalist, contributing editor at Vanity Fair, a columnist at Yahoo Finance, and a contributor to CNBC.
Previously, she was a columnist for Slate and spent thirteen years at Fortune, where she was an editor-at-large and one of the first reporters to investigate the corruption and fraud at Enron. With fellow Fortune writer, Peter Elkind, they wrote the national bestseller THE SMARTEST GUYS IN THE ROOM, which exposed the scandal in full. The book was thereafter adapted into a Oscar-nominated documentary, directed by Alex Gibney.
McLean has also written in-depth pieces about credit rating agencies, Goldman Sachs, President Clinton’s global philanthropy, Australia’s Macquarie Bank, and more.
With Joe Nocera, McLean is at work on a book exploring the interplay of systemic forces that rendered America woefully ill-equipped to cope with the deadliest pandemic since the 1918 Spanish Flu.
